Pedicure Aftercare: What to Do (and Avoid) in the First 48 Hours (Plus a Quick Note on Waxing)
By AR SALON LASHES BROWS & NAILS | July 29, 2026
Serving Lynnwood, WA, in the Alderwood and Lynnwood City Center area near Alderwood Mall and 33rd Avenue West.

Our biggest rule after your pedicure is simple: keep your toes dry and pressure-free for the first 24 to 48 hours. We hear it all the time, people love how their nails turn out (especially when they try something fun like shellac with chrome), and the easiest way to protect that smooth finish is to avoid soaking, sweating heavily, or squeezing your toes into tight shoes right after you leave our Lynnwood salon.
The first 1 to 2 hours: drying time is your polish insurance
Even if your pedicure looked perfect when you stood up, the first couple hours are when most smudges happen. We’re efficient in the chair, but we never want you rushing your toes afterward. Give yourself a little buffer.
Do this right away: wear sandals or roomy, breathable shoes for a few hours. Keep your toes from rubbing, bumping, or being pressed together.
Quick “don’t” list for right after your appointment
- Don’t run errands that involve a lot of walking in tight sneakers right away.
- Don’t take a hot shower that steams up the bathroom immediately. Heat and moisture soften polish.
- Don’t put on socks until you’re confident everything is fully set.
If you’re coming in before or after a stop at Alderwood Mall, plan your pedicure so you can keep your shoes easy and your steps light for a bit. Your toes will thank you.
The first 24 to 48 hours: showers, workouts, pools, and Lynnwood weather
For the first day or two, we generally recommend keeping things simple: no long soaks, no sauna, and no heavy sweating. In our Marine Northwest climate, rainy days and summer humidity can keep feet damp longer than you think, so breathable footwear matters even more.
Shower and bath rules
A quick, lukewarm shower is usually fine once your polish feels set, but skip the long hot shower or bath for about 24 hours. And avoid standing with your feet under direct hot water for a long time.
Workouts and running
Intense cardio that makes your feet sweat a lot can shorten polish life and irritate freshly cleaned cuticles. Give it at least 24 hours before a hard run or workout. If you have to move that same day, keep it light and keep your feet dry afterward.
Pools, hot tubs, and saunas
Hold off on swimming, hot tubs, and saunas for 24 to 48 hours. Chlorine and prolonged soaking can dull shine and soften the edges around the nail, and hot tubs add heat on top of moisture.
Days 3 to 7: keep that “my nails look amazing” finish
A lot of our regulars come back because they like that fresh, clean look that holds up. The first week is where you either protect it or accidentally wear it down fast.
Small habit, big payoff: after you shower, dry between your toes and around your nail edges. It helps prevent that soggy feeling that can lead to irritation.
- Skip picking at the cuticle area. If something feels “catchy, ” trim a tiny hangnail carefully instead of pulling.
- Avoid aggressive foot files at home for a week. Over-filing can make skin feel tender and cracky.
- If you’re in closed-toe shoes all day, rotate pairs and let shoes dry out. Damp shoes are rough on toes in Lynnwood’s rainy season.
And if you commute through Lynnwood Transit Center or drive in from Edmonds, Mountlake Terrace, Brier, Mill Creek, Bothell, or Mukilteo, keep a pair of easy sandals in the car for right after your appointment. It’s a simple way to avoid pressure marks.
Cuticle oil, top coat, and the products we actually see help
Our pedicure uses all natural Nu Skin products, and you can keep that soft feel going at home without doing anything complicated. Think: a little oil, a little moisture, and less soaking.
A simple nightly routine
- Put cuticle oil on nightly. If your cuticles get dry fast, go morning and night.
- Moisturize the tops of your feet and heels after showering, but don’t pack heavy lotion right under the nail edge.
- Reapply a clear top coat every 3 to 5 days to keep shine and help reduce chipping.
Smudge fix: if you notice a fresh smudge right after your appointment, don’t try to “rub it out.” Let us know as soon as you can. If you’re at home, a tiny bit of polish remover on a cotton swab can smooth an edge, then you can reapply a thin layer of polish or top coat if you have it.
When to reach out to our team (and a quick word on waxing searches)
A little tenderness after nail cleanup can happen, but sharp pain, worsening swelling, drainage, or redness that doesn’t calm down is not something to ignore. If anything feels off, call us and we’ll talk it through. We take you seriously, especially if you’re someone who’s picky about details.
"I am a regular here. They do my mani-pedi and my lashes. Everyone is super friendly. I have never had a complaint or concern going here, and trust me... I am very picky about these things."
one of our regulars
One more thing, since we get this question online a lot. If you landed here searching eyebrows and waxing near me, we’re glad you found us. We do lashes, brows, and nails, and many people book a nail visit first to check out the vibe, then come back for brows.
